The Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC) is one of the world's leading collaborative research organisations focused on carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS).
CO2CRC comprises participants from Australian and global industry, universities and other research bodies from Australia and New Zealand, and Australian Commonwealth, State and international governments. Gas/LNG companies are major CO2CRC participants.
CCS involves capturing carbon dioxide that would otherwise be emitted, compressing it, transporting it to a suitable site, and injecting it into deep geological formations. CCS enables the use of fossil fuels, for electricity generation or industrial processes, without significant carbon dioxide emissions.
CCS is a major enabler for the gas industry, given that a significant proportion of Australia’s natural gas reservoirs are high in carbon dioxide. |
